Toshiba Portege G810 Review
Toshiba launch their first attempt at an i-phone style touch friendly device with their Portege G810.
Priced at around £358 this is the 3rd Windows based mobile in the Toshiba family and has a touch friendly interface.
The screen face is 2.8 inches and the blue illuminated buttons are easy to follow and use. There are side buttons for camera, voice recorder and volume and these are all well integrated.
At first use the Toshiba G810 gives you a choice of which interface enhancements you require, such as finger scrolling. This allows the user to have control over programming rather than having to install everything whether you need it or not.
The Toshiba G810 has been packed with software to assist scrolling and navigation and have produced a powerful and highly customisable unit. However, the scrolling function can feel a touch slower than an i-phone and is therefore more difficult to use with great precision.
The device is equipped with an 3MP camera on the back with flash and auto focus. Additionally there is also built in GPS, wi-fi and HDSPA for connectivity (but no 3rd party web browser). There is ample RAM and ROM, however battery length could be better, requiring charge at the end of a days usage.
In terms of design this product maybe slightly behind the pack, but performance and price mean this device at around £350 offers superb value for money and puts the Toshiba G801 in direct competition with the best of Apple and HTC.
