Nokia Finally Enters Touch-Screen Market - 5800
Nokia may have been slow to follow the lead, but the wait is finally over as the 5800 XpressMusic phone enters the market.
The handset is part of the Nokia Comes With Music range and throughout 2009 users will be able to download unlimited music tracks for a 12-month contract period.
So, what about the handset…
Well, on the face of it this is a stunning and striking handset. It has a generous 3.2” touch-screen display that incorporates a Media Bar – a drop down menu providing the user with instant access to their music, videos and photos. This bar also acts as a direct link to the web for online contact sharing.
To allow plenty of tracks to be stored the phone comes with 8MB of internal memory and a 3.5mm jack allowing the user to use their own headphones.
A new clever function is the Contacts Bar – this allows you to track interaction history for up to four favourite contacts and displays recent text messages, emails, calls, photos and blog updates, making this phone a superb social networking phone.
The stunning screen offers one of the best resolutions on the market to date, with a 16×9 aspect ratio and 30 frames per second playback.
Ideal for quick snaps the phone has a built in 3.2MP camera with Carl Zeiss lens and the touch screen enables videos and photos to be shared quickly and easily onto sites such as Facebook and Flikr.
Music can be shared through Bluetooth, MMS or on-line sharing.
Expected to be on sale at the end of 2008 the 5800 is expected to retail at around £220 plus VAT but there are bound to be plenty of contracts available. The Carphone Warehouse is one high street / internet retailer offering the Comes With Music Range.
This handset looks certain to be a winner!
LG to bring Touch-Screen Phones to the Masses
The average UK mobile phone user may feel that a touch-screen mobile is simply out of their reach, thanks to their often hefty price tags, or expensive monthly contracts.
However, LG look set to change this with the launch of the LG KP500 Cookie. Although prices have not yet been revealed they are believed to be more affordable than prices of similar handsets on the market.
The KP500 will have a 3” touch sensitive screen, a stylus which is stored in the phones base and an accelerometer for motion sensor gaming.
The handset is a glossy black slim unit with titanium trim for a quality feel. It has a virtual QWERTY keyboard, which you use through the touch screen which auto rotates to landscape or portrait as the phone is tilted.
This is a smart little phone, which should have wide appeal if LG get their pricing right.
Samsung Launches “Beat” Music Phones
Samsung has created a new collection of music phones called the Beat Range, which are expected to compete with Sony Ericsson’s Walkman range of handsets.
The Beat Range is made up of two funky and stylish looking handsets, as follows:
The M3200, also called the “Beat s” is a slider phone, which comes in brushed silver and a choice of purple or yellow trim and dedicated music keys.
To improve audio playback through the speakers the handset boasts a Bang & Olufsen ICEpower audio chip.
The M3200 also has a 3.5mm audio jack, but does not have a separate adaptor, as with other Samsung devices.
Stereo Bluetooth is included for use with A2DP headsets as well as an FM radio with RDS and audio recording plus shake control.
The motion play feature alls you to play music by tapping the body of the phone and can be muted by simply turning the handset face down.
The other handset in the range is a striking candybar. The M3510, also known as “Beat b” carries the same features as the M3200 but does not include the Bang & Olufsen music chip.
These handsets are set to appeal to a young audience, thanks to their bright and funky looks and their powerful music features.
