Motorola has hardly been quick to bring camera phones to the market. Whilst other manufacturers proudly present their 8MP camera phones to the market Motorola are releasing what is their first 5MP camera phone in the ZN5.
So how does the ZN5 rate?

Well, on first glance it looks rather chunky. When you take it in hand and feel the keypad you soon realise that, despite its width, the keys are placed very close together and it is easy to press the wrong key.

Motorola have tried to impress with the powerful camera in this phone, and have gone to great lengths by teaming up with photography giant Kodak. This certainly seems to have benefited the camera function. The screen when in focus is clear, sharp and vibrant. There are 3 handy shortcut keys which are active when taking and having just taken a shot, allowing you to store, discard of share the photo, either by MMS, email, Bluetooth or by submitting it to the Kodak Gallery.

Kodak Gallery is a well-established web site where you can safely store and share photos and order prints and other printed materials. When you view photos taken with the ZN5 on the Kodak Gallery you are sure to be impressed, and the initial quality seems excellent.

The camera phone is lacking some basics, such as shooting in black and white. However, some useful functions are available such as a bright Xenon flash, which enables good quality night time shots.

Strangely Motorola seem to have neglected the quality of video on this handset. The ZN5 does not perform as well as the Moto Z10, so it looks like one step forward, two steps back….

Overall, even though Motorola have collaborated with Kodak this mobile seems rather disappointing. There are many other alternatives on the market offering a more comprehensive, powerful photo and video experience.

The verdict? Could do better….
